I have so many stories I can share about how all this came together, let’s just say
I can see God's hand in this and it's all coming together like pieces to a puzzle.
From a $17 trailer, a 5 year old Dodge Grand Caravan with 14,000 original one
owner miles, folks that gave us a chance to build for them, to an awesome wife
and homeschool mom, Amy, our strong sons, Devin and Dylan and our precious
daughter, Emily.
The spring of 2011, my sons and I decided to build a picnic table for a family event. We needed something bigger and better built than what was on the market at the lumber stores. The weekend after was the 100 mile yard sale event, we had a yard sale going and used the picnic table to have a place to sit at our yard sale. Amy said, “You might as well put a for sale sign on it and see if we get any buyers.” Yeah, you guessed it, we did! So we built a few for individuals, took a few around to the local businesses for their outside seating, and put an ad in the local newspaper and on Craigslist. At this point, we had a hobby. My sons and I would build here and there when we had time. We named our hobby JDDTables after our names (Juan, Devin and Dylan). In time, we added the farm table design and benches to match along with a few other wood projects. We got to meet some great folks and build tables for - BurnCo BBQ, Oklahoma Joe's BBQ and an installation on a 12 story building just to name a few!
I remember sitting at the dinner table with my family one night, telling my sons that in the future “I hoped building together would be something they could use to earn some extra money if they were in a tight spot, or if they happened to fall unemployed.” In 2014, I was in the position to take my own advice as I became unemployed. I kept seeking a full-time job and just seemed to be out foxed by someone else or the pay wasn’t right for our family. Finally, by the end of November 2014, I made the decision to go full-time from hobby to business. The winter was a rough place to start but God provided our needs!
I had customers and folks from church say “Have you thought about doing this full-time?” I had been kicking around the idea of doing more marketing to see if I could get more orders. My boys were tied up with other things and couldn’t help very often. I didn't want to see JDDTables hobby name disappear, but I knew it was a new era for our business. I started thinking about a website name. “Green Country Tables” came to mind, but I wasn't sure. I had a delivery and met a couple that were very encouraging. This man, Jon, had experience in web marketing. Jon stood there thinking, looking in the air and said “Maybe a good website name would be GreenCountryTables.com.” At that moment I was speechless. I said I had thought of the very same name a couple of days before. I couldn't believe it! I feel like all this has happened for a reason and Jesus has his hand in it.
2015 - Drew "Iron Man" - Production Supervisor/ Building & Finishing Craftsman joined in on the fun! My prayers were answered as I prayed, Lord I need some help! Drew is a single Dad and my brother in law. We have worked at 4 jobs together along life's journey. Drew raises his son Kayser and is an outdoorsman, don't get me started on the fisherman part (too many caught to count)! Yes Iron Man looks like Drew!
2020 - Seth - Finishing Craftsman joined #TheCrew
2011 - Present - Devin - co-founder/best of all my son. Devin is focusing on furthering his education and is a walking testimony for Jesus! He sometimes will come with me on deliveries and he named our newest delivery vehicle IronVan, which you may see.
2011 - Present - Dylan - co-founder/best of all my son. Dylan has been busy with high school and wants to be an engineer. He achieved his Eagle Scout and William T. Hornaday Award April 2019. He is now going to ORU 2022!
Emily - my daughter/block picker upper when she was young. She is a bookworm, sews and part of American Heritage Girls Troop. She has had and will have many adventures (Dog Sledding, Yellowstone). She loves to do events with her troop and has achieved Stars and Stripes 2021, the highest award given to an American Heritage Girl. She'll be in college 2023 and is an Asst. Kindergarten Teacher.
Well that starts the story of how this business came about!
Now, it's up to all of you out there to let us build a custom furnishing for you!
Two of my favorite versus in the word of God-
Matthew 6:31-34 - Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? Or, what shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
2 Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
To sum it up, don't be scared, and don't let fear (the devil) distract you from seeking the kingdom of God because if you seek him first, he is in control and already knows what you need and want. The devil likes to put that fear of debt, finances, health and other things in front of us to cause us to worry about the problem instead of praying and seeking Jesus in faith for deliverance from whatever it is. Are you a prayer warrior or a prayer worrier? VICTORY!
Did I mention - You are invited to The Stronghold Church Sunday 10:30am / Wed 7pm, come and worship Jesus with us. Address is on top of this page.
May God bless you and your family,
Juan and #TheCrew at Green Country Tables
